What’s New in Workforce for ArcGIS

Workforce for ArcGIS is an Esri application to help users plan and coordinate field work. Optimize field operations while gaining organizational location awareness. Integrating easily with the suite of esri field mobility apps, Workforce provides the capacity to assign tasks to field workers, and capture a variety of data including timestamps to measure worker performance, location history, and last known worker location.

What’s new with Workforce for ArcGIS?

Explore the latest resources from Workforce, including a new esri product page, new resources page, and a Workforce learning lesson focused on the management of hydrant inspections.

New administration improvements include app integration with Explorer for ArcGIS, and the ability to pass the GlobalID into Collector for ArcGIS and Survey123, providing the option to link data collection work with field work assignments.

Interacting with Workforce

Users can interact with Workforce for ArcGIS via the user interface or through the ArcGIS API for Python. Many users are leveraging Python to automate workflows within Workforce, including the configuration and loading of assignments. This method provides a powerful way to script and automate all your work. Jupyter Notebooks leverage the Python API to easily automate tasks and get Workforce quickly up and running. Pull in one time data from a CSV file, import assignments from a feature layer, or connect to a database and leverage spatial ETL tools. Access all the Esri Workforce scripts on GitHub for a great overview of extending Workforce.

The Next Release of Workforce for ArcGIS

The next release is highly focused on offline support, with the ability to conduct work in an offline environment and sync up your data once returning online. In addition, the new Workforce mobile application will exhibit a new view for the user interface, and will be updated to the latest runtime. The current road map for these updates brings us to the second half of 2019, and the new offline Workforce program will require ArcGIS Enterprise 10.7+, while the current Workforce mobile app will become “Workforce Classic”, so you can continue your current workflows as normal without switching to the new mobile app.

Integration with Tracker for ArcGIS

Location tracking within Workforce is soon to be replaced with Tracker for ArcGIS capabilities. Tracker for ArcGIS is a leading new technology in situational awareness that lets you know exactly what’s going on in the field in real-time. Share your location, know where your entire team is, detect patterns and analyze tracks.

This lightweight mobile application provides proof of work, situational awareness, and near real-time assessments. Simply by running in the background, Tracker for ArcGIS works offline to capture breadcrumb trails to detect patterns in the behavior of your workforce.
