We’re excited to welcome Corey to the GeoMarvel team. Corey joined the GeoMarvel office in Arlington, Virginia in May of 2019. To highlight this wonderful addition to the team, here’s our quick Q & A session with Corey Norris!
What is your role at GeoMarvel and what does it involve?
I’m the Business Operations Manager at GeoMarvel. My responsibility is to ensure that the business is operating on all cylinders, whether it be engagement with clients and prospective clients, oversight of projects, or day-to-day operational tasks.
Describe your education & professional backgrounds
I obtained my B.A. in Sociology from the University of Maryland in 2013. And continued my education with a Masters in Business Administration focused in Business Intelligence, graduating in December of 2018 from the American University in Washington DC. My experience before GeoMarvel was in research and sales generation for the healthcare and 401(k) markets.
What drew you to join the GeoMarvel team?
I was very impressed by how much the company has been able to accomplish in a few short years. From our work on projects to our marketing efforts and especially our leadership, I believe in the direction and potential of the organization, so it was naturally something that I was thrilled to be a part of.
What is your favorite part about working for GeoMarvel?
It’s really neat to be involved with so many different projects. You get to learn about a new organization, their industry, and their mission. And at the end of the day, you help them accomplish that by providing them with technologies to make their organization operate more effectively.
Before working for GeoMarvel, what’s the most unique/interesting job you’ve had?
My first job was at a nursing facility. I worked there for 5 years, and one summer, I worked in the maintenance department because they needed help. I was essentially a professional light bulb changer, but it was one of the best jobs I’ve ever had.
How do you like to spend your time outside of the office?
I love to cook, find new golf courses that I’ve never played, spend time with family, and be active with friends.
What advice do you have for upcoming professionals in your field?
Be prepared to learn. Data and technology are so pivotal in today’s business world, but they’re also complex and dynamic. Learning how to bridge them to drive business decisions is incredibly important.
What random facts can you share about yourself?
My birthday falls on the summer solstice, so I always get to celebrate it with the longest period of daylight for the year.
Where are you from originally?
Woodbine, Maryland. It’s a small town in Carroll County, between Baltimore and Frederick.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
I’m planning on going to Italy in the near future. My family is from Italian descent so I would love to go see its history and beauty, and experience the roots of Italian cuisine.
Favorite sport, movie, quote?
Football. I’m a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan, so I always look forward to Sundays once the season starts and, in recent years, look forward to the season ending by about week 8…
My favorite movie has to be Forrest Gump – I even do a pretty mean Forrest impression : )
And my favorite quote is…
